In our shop, every product has a custom field of string type. In a VM category layout, we assigned it to a grid item's metadata, but somehow, some items show this value while others don't.
Tested with latest VM 4.2.6

The seems to be related to what type of custom field is chosen - like cart attribute or not. We will take a look.
