As far as I can see, the module currently hardcodes the site default menu Itemid on submit. On our install that sends search to the homepage menu item instead of our dedicated VM search results page.
mod_virtuemart_search has a set_itemid param for this. Any chance you could add the same (or a menu item picker) to JP VM Ajax Search?
